Rachel Ann McAdams was born and raised in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. Her start in the spotlight wasn't with acting, but with figure skating, which she competed in regularly throughout high school. Her first shot at acting came in Shakespearean plays at a summer theatre camp when she was thirteen.

Originally, Rachel intended to go to apply to college for cultural studies, despite her pull to theatre. A drama teacher, however, was able to convince Rachel to apply for theatre, and she attended York University in Toronto, Ontario before graduating with honours and a B.F.A degree.

The first role that got her noticed in the public eye was a guest appearance a bulimic girl on The Famous Jett Jackson. She later went on to star in Perfect Pie--which granted her a nomination for a Genie Award, the Canadian equal of an Academy Award. She was introduced to America as well as Canada in Rob Schneider's The Hot Chick in 2002, the flick in which she played a snotty, self-absorbed cheerleader who learns a harsh lesson after switching bodies with a thirty-year-old loser. She also appeared in the Canadian dark comedy series Slings and Arrows, which granted her a Gemini Award--Canadian equal of an Emmy--for Best Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series

Her Hollywood follow-up was another teen movie in which she played the Queen Bee in Tina Fey's hit comedy Mean Girls, alongside Hollywood siren Lindsay Lohan. Not one to be typecast, Rachel was next seen in the tear-jerking film adaptation of The Notebook, alongside Ryan Gosling, featuring Rachel in a considerably more sympathetic role and showing the public she was hardly just a teen-queen character.

Despite her success in the past, the summer of 2005 found Rachel in an even bigger spotlight as she had to movies released; the unexpected comedy hit The Wedding Crashers, alongside Owen Wilson, and the intense thriller Red Eye with Cillian Murphy and directed by Wes Craven. Her last flick of 2005 was The Family Stone, in which Rachel took a step back from leading lady status to play in a cast ensemble with Diane Keaton, Luke Wilson and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Currently, Rachel is getting ready to film Marriage, a 40's-era drama with Chris Cooper and Pierce Brosnan, to be directed by Ira Sachs and released in 2007.
